High Sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) Test

Overview

High Sensitivity CRP (hs-CRPs) are a marker of baseline concentrations as well as a marker for chronic inflammation. They predict the development of heart disease in healthy individuals, and the risk of developing heart disease in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). CRP, also known as C-refractory protein (CRP), is a marker for inflammation in the body. Most commonly, CRP is measured at 3-5 mg/L (3-6 mg/L), but hs-refractory CRP can detect lower levels (0.3-0.4 mg/L). Hs-CRPs are used to detect minor chronic inflammation due to their increased sensitivity. The higher the hs-refressory protein level, the higher the level of inflammation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) Serum Test is done to measure the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood. It is used as a marker of inflammation in the body. Elevated hsCRP levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, making this test useful in assessing cardiovascular health and guiding treatment decisions.

The High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) Serum Test measures the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood. This test provides an indication of the degree of inflammation in the body, particularly low-grade or chronic inflammation. Elevated levels of hsCRP are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and other inflammatory conditions.

During the High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) Serum Test, a healthcare provider will draw blood from a vein, typically in your arm. You may feel a slight pinch or discomfort when the needle is inserted. After the test, there might be mild bruising or soreness at the puncture site, but these effects are usually minimal and temporary.

If the HsCRP - High Sensitivity CRP Serum test results are present, it means that the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) in the blood was detected. Elevated levels may indicate inflammation in the body, which can be associated with increased cardiovascular risk.

If the results are absent, it means that hsCRP levels were not detected, which is highly unusual. Further investigation may be needed to determine the cause, or a repeat test may be required.

The hs-CRP test is recommended for individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease, including those with a history of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, family history of heart disease, or autoimmune diseases.
